Havelock Trip 2003

May 2-4, 2003

A parking lot outside of Toronto.

Calling for another route.

Over the weekend of May 2-4, Mid-Century Lodge shared its annual fraternal visit with Havelock Lodge, outside of Peterborough, Ontario. This year, Mid-Century traveled to Havelock for the visit -- though we almost didn't make it. Apparently everyone in Toronto was trying to get out just as we arrived, turning the highway into a parking lot, where we sat for the next two hours. A few quick calls for directions to alternate routes gleaned the disappointing confirmation that we were on the alternate route. Still and all, an hour late, we made it, and were greeted with the warm smiles and handshakes of our Canadian brethren.

On Saturday, May 5, a special Lodge was opened at Havelock Lodge for the purpose of Mid-Century's portrayal of its Fellowcraft degree on a candidate pro tem, who was one of our Canadian Brothers. The degreework was excellent, if we may say so ourselves, with the lecture delivered by PM Stephen Behm. After Lodge, the brethren reconvened in a nearby hall for a delicious banquet of roast beef, prepared by one of Havelock's own Past Masters.

Fellowship at Picadilly's.

While not at labor, the brethren enjoyed general fellowship, with breakfast daily at Picadilly's. Saturday morning, some of our Canadian brethren took the Americans on tours of sites in the area. Side-trips included Rice lake, the Ojibwa Indian Reservation, the Canoe Museum, and the world-famous Peterborough Lift Locks.

A truly enjoyable weekend was had by all, proving once again how strong are the bonds of the Masonic fraternity, and how trivial the woes of the world seem when Brothers can meet in peace and harmony.

Happy to meet, sorry to part, happy to meet again.

Stated Meetings: 7:30pm every 1st and 3rd Tuesday of the month.
